There are different levels of metadata that you can provide

  • Collection or research study level descriptive metadata
  • Administrative metadata
  • Technical metadata

Describing your data effectively is a really important step in making sure that your files can be managed, can be retrieved, can be shared and can be understood by others in the research community.

Fundamentally, the more metadata captured, the better chance researchers of the future will be able to locate and make use of your data.
