Access to the PG Hub

Who can get into the PG Hub?

Entry to to the PG Hub is controlled through a card reader, so you simply need to use your University swipe card. The groups that can gain access are: all postgraduate students (including those who have finished their coursework but still accessing support services while waiting to graduate) and university staff. Access for other people will be considered on a case-by-case basis.


What do I do if my card won’t let me in?

If your card doesn’t work and you think you should have access, please email us pghub at warwick dot ac dot uk with your University number. We will get back to you as soon as we can.


Can undergraduates get in?

The PG Hub is a space for postgraduate students. However, we will also consider events that brings together undergraduates and postgraduates on a case-by-case basis.


Can I arrange a tour for my students?

Yes we would be delighted to offer a tour. Please email pgcommunity@warwick.ac.uk

Using the PG Hub

What is the purpose of the PG Hub?

We provide a space for postgraduate taught and postgraduate research students to access support and resources dedicated to their needs. Postgraduate students can work and share experiences in the PG Hub in the broadest context of postgraduate life, not just study.


How does the PG Hub complement the Wolfson Research Exchange?

The Wolfson Research Exchange is a space for collaborative and interdisciplinary research for the whole Warwick research community. The PG Hub is a space for postgraduate taught and postgraduate research students to access support and to work and share experiences together in the broadest context of postgraduate life, not just research life.


Is this a study space for postgraduate taught students?

There is a range of spaces for groups work and independent study but there is no dedicated silent study space. The Library and the Learning Grid offer study space for University of Warwick students. A dedicated quiet study area is offered on the third floor extension of the Library, in the Wolfson postgraduate cluster. Postgraduate research students also have access to the Wolfson Research Exchange on the third floor extension of the Library.


Is there a silent study area in the PG Hub?

There currently is no silent study area here. The PG Hub is part of an overall offer of mixed spaces available to postgraduate students in the University. The full range of this offer is described on the Graduate School website. The Library will also continue to review postgraduate students’ needs, and will look specifically at extending silent study area. The PG Hub does, however, have a dedicated quiet study area.


What can and can’t users do in the space?

This space is for study, group work, networking and informal and formal sessions. We ask that you respect the space and other users. There is a Facilities team member on duty at all times in case you have any questions about regulations.


Is it possible to eat and drink in the Hub?

Cold food and hot & cold drinks are allowed but no hot food or alcohol is allowed to be brought into the space, unless this is linked to a booked event and arranged in advance.


What equipment does the PG Hub have?

We have a number of mobile smartboards and a fixed smartboard in the central group area and bookable rooms. These are bookable for events and also available on an ad hoc basis. There are a number of sockets throughout the space into which you can connect your own laptop. You can borrow a laptop for the day if you require one. We also have additional equipment, such as headphones, that you can borrow. Additional equipment is also available to be booked by University staff through Audio Visual Services. If users have views on additional equipment they would like to see provided in the Hub, please talk to the team or email pghub at warwick dot ac dot uk


What computer facilities are available for student or staff use in the PG Hub?

We have a suite of 7 desktop computers, as well as an additional 5 desktop computers in the Main Atrium, for students and staff to use. There is also a cluster of 16 computers dedicated to postgraduate students on the third floor extension of the Library. You also have the option of borrowing a laptop.


Are the computers bookable in the PG Hub?

The computers are accessable on a first-come first-serve basis.


Are there lockers in the PG Hub?
Yes there are approximately 30 lockers available for use in the PG Hub. These are available on a first-come first-served basis, one day at a time. The lockers automatically release after 10 hours and items will be removed if they are left in the lockers.
Are lockers bookable in the PG hub?

No, lockers are not bookable and automatically release after 10 hours.


Are there printing facilities available in the PG Hub?
Yes an IT Services printer is available for use, using standard printer credits.


Is there a photocopier in the PG Hub?

There is a photocopier in the PG Hub. This is an integral part of the IT Services printer.


Is there wireless internet access?
The PG Hub has wireless internet access through all the usual wireless networks offered in the University.


Use of bookable rooms

How do I book a room?

You can browse the occupancy details page to select the approriate size room for your group. Once a space has been selected, go to calendar where you can self-book the space best suited to your needs. We would ask you to please remove your booking if it is no longer needed. At certain times, it may be necessary for us to amend your booking, in which case we will endeavour to give you as much advanced notice as possible.

What uses can be made of the bookable rooms?

We have a variety of room sizes and these can be used for anything from 1-to-1 sessions, groupwork and seminars for up to 20 people. Multiple rooms can be booked for a single event subject to availability. There’s also a range of technology available for you to book, again subject to it being available. Other room usage guidelines include;

  • Rooms are to be used by postgraduate students only
  • Rooms should not be used for individual study
  • Rooms not occupied after 15 minutes of the booking start time will automatically become available for other users
  • Please be considerate and only book times that are required
  • Try to book the most suitable room based on number of attendees and occupancy details
  • Repeat bookings are not allowed
  • Postgraduate Hub reserves the right to amend bookings at our discretion.


Is there a limit on the length of a booking?
There is a 3 hour limit for bookings. However longer requests will be reviewed by the team and confirmed subject to availability.


Can I make repeat bookings?

No. The space is designed to be flexible and while each booking is dealt with on a case by case basis, it is highly unlikely that a repeat booking would be suitable.


Can students make bookings?

Yes postgraduate students will be very welcome to book rooms subject to availability.


Can I book the whole facility for an event?
While all booking requests are dealt with on a case by case basis, it is highly unlikey that booking the whole space would ever be suitable. You can contact the PG Hub team via e-mail for more information.


Can I hold team meetings in the space?
The rooms in the PG Hub are only bookable for postgraduate-use. Please check the University's central timetabled rooms if you are booking for a staff meeting.


What are the capacities of the PG Hub?
The total numbers here cannot exceed 110 people for fire regulations. We have a central space which can be used for groups or individuals and it seats approximately 30 people. There are 6 bookable rooms. Each room varies – there are rooms that can accommodate events from 1 to 20 people. We can offer you advice on which room to use based on your requirements, or if you prefer you can come and visit us in the Hub for a tour.


Can I book the 'PG Hub Central Atrium' space in the PG Hub?

While the SMARTboard in the Central Atrium can be booked, the space can not unless directly approved by the PG Hub team via e-mail. Our central atrium is a space for individual and group work and is used as an informal space by students.


Opening hours

What are the opening hours?

We are open Monday to Sunday 9am – 12am (midnight). The PG Hub is closed for Bank Holidays.


Is the PG Hub open at weekends?

Yes, we are open Monday to Sunday 9am – 12am (midnight).


Is the PG Hub open during vacations?

We are open during vacation time, but not during Bank Holidays and other statutory holidays.

The PG Hub will be closed from Saturday 15th December 2018 to Tuesday 1st January 2019 inclusive, re-opening at 9am on Wednesday 2nd January 2019.

The PG Hub will be closed from Friday 19th April 2019 to Monday 22nd April 2019 inclusive for Easter, re-opening at 9am on Tuesday 23rd April 2019.

The PG Hub will also be closed on Monday 6th May, Monday 27th May, and Monday 26th August for Bank Holidays in 2019.
