This session outlines the differences between 2*, 3* and 4* publications and encourages participants to identify this in examples of work within their disciplines. During the session, we discuss these critical points and how to embed them into writing practice. Participants are asked to bring examples with them and a copy of their work so that they can transfer principles from the discussion directly to their writing in-session.
Who should attend?
University of Warwick Research Active Staff (staff on Research-focused, Teaching-focused and Research and Teaching contracts).
Leadership and Management Development do not accept applications from PGRs. PGRs should refer to the Research Development at the Doctoral College.
Workshop enables participants to:
- Understand the key qualities of top-rated journal articles and how these differs from lower ranked research publications.
- Identify how to build on your existing writing practice to achieve the highest quality research in your field.
- Receive feedback on an abstract for their next article.
- Produce a take-away plan of action for their next article.
- Explore effective ways of communicating the value of research.
- Progress and raise the quality of their writing in 'real-time' as part of the workshop.
Participants are asked to:
- Bring a piece of writing to work on. This can be something they haven’t begun or have already started. It could be a publication, conference paper, impact case study or research grant.
- Bring a recent article submitted for publication (accepted or rejected) or recent grant application or impact case study.
- As they will be working on their writing ‘in-session’, they should also bring with them a laptop or notebook to facilitate this.
The session will run from 10.00 - 16.00. The morning is dedicated to delivering the core content of the session with specific writing allocation time for participants in the afternoon to actively progress their writing. This form of mini writing retreat will provide the time and space to put learning into practice and towards the end of the session, reflect on progress and plan future work.
