Useful Approaches from UK Schools

The UK education sector is varied and multifaceted. It encompasses a host of formal and informal settings, supporting a range of age groups and driven by a diversity of social, cultural, political and economic imperatives. Although most educators work within a specific system, there is no reason why the best practices from one sector cannot be adapted for another.

In this session we will explore some of the concepts, principles and practices currently prominent in UK secondary schools. Not only will you be given an opportunity to reflect on your own practice, you will be presented with ideas and resources which you might be able to adapt and then utilise in a module that you are currently teaching on. There will be some useful resources to take away, which you can shape and adapt for your own students.

Areas covered will include: promoting knowledge and knowledge retention; mapping a 'learning journey'; approaches to assessment and feedback.
