In an angry and uncivil political age, finding ways to discuss complex ideas and disagree with civility clearly matters.
In this session we will explore debating as a pedagogical approach. We will discuss the ways in which it might promote complex, nuanced thinking. We will look at the ways that might help students grasp and understand key concepts and knowledges. We will consider how it might help prepare students for the rigours of a written assessment, particularly critical thinking. We will also question whether it can provide a model for more civil, respectful dialogue in public and private spaces, both physical and digital.
