Biography

Sara has over twenty years of teaching and teacher education experience, starting her career in Further and Adult Education, spending 12 years in the Centre for Lifelong LearningLink opens in a new window, Warwick, as a teacher educator and e-Learning Manager, and joining the Academic Development Centre in 2015. Sara is primarily responsible for working with PhD students who teach, as course leader on the APP PGR programmeLink opens in a new window (an accredited pathway leading to Associate Fellowship, HEA) and the Postgraduate Award in Teaching and Learning in HELink opens in a new window.

Sara contributes to the wider work of the ADC team, leading workshops as part of the Academic Development ProgrammeLink opens in a new window, as supporting tutor on the APP TELink opens in a new window and mentor on the APP EXPLink opens in a new window programmes, and as well as acting as an assessor on all of the Pathways. Sara was a Foundation Fellow of WIHEALink opens in a new window and has been an active contributor to Warwick's Extended Classroom InitiativeLink opens in a new window. Sara has been nominated for a Warwick Award for Teaching Excellence Link opens in a new windowthree times, being commended in 2010 and 2015 and along with the Warwick PTC team was commended in the WATE Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence, 2022. She is part of the LDCU who were recognised with a national CATE award also in 2022.

Sara is the academic mentor and founding member of Warwick Postgraduate Teaching Community, a community of practice supporting PGR teachers at Warwick. She also currently supports the national GTA Developer Network alongside colleagues at UCL, University of Sheffield and University of Hull.

Sara is currently an External Examiner at the University of Lancaster (2022-26), and has previously been an External Examiner at University of York (2017-2021) supporting colleagues in other HEIs with their Advance HE, Descriptor One provision.

Interests

Sara's interests include innovative approaches in teaching and learning; curriculum design, particularly the integration of educational technology, flipped approaches and classroom technologies; and the potential of e-portfolios for creation and curation, and as a tool for capturing the affective elements of learning. Sara is also passionate about inclusivity, lifelong learning, an 'open' curriculum, students as curriculum designers and social justice in education. With responsibilities for postgraduate researchers who teach, Sara is passionate about the professional development and rights of early career academics, and has advised on the current GTA contracts as well as contributed to recent research into the state of PGR teaching at Warwick through the PGR Teaching Survey (2021).

Sara Hattersley

Sara is a Senior Academic Developer, working in the Academic Development Centre, in Senate House.

She has worked at the University for 16 years, as a teacher educator and e-learning manager in the Centre for Lifelong Learning, and now as a Senior Academic Developer in ADC.
