Introduction to Research Supervision

Welcome to the online component of the Introduction to Research Supervision at the University of Warwick, which complements the face to face sessions with an experienced supervisor.

This element introduces you to the University's policy and procedures around supervision and the support available to you and your students throughout their PhD. After completing this element you will have:

  • a greater understanding of the role and responsibilities of a research supervisor at Warwick
  • increased awareness of the central support available for supervisors and students at Warwick
  • awareness of the health and safety issues in relation to supervision and research

Meanwhile the face-to-face sessions provide you with the opportunity to hear from an experienced supervisor and discuss what's involved in research supervision, share ideas and explore common challenges.

Also don't forget to make use of the support available within your own departments.

What do I have to do?

  • Engage with each of the four sections available on the right hand side of this page. Each section offers core information (which will take around 15 minutes to read) and links to additional information that you might find useful. Some sections also include short activities that assess your knowledge.
  • When you have finished reading a section mark it as complete using the button at the end of each section. You can see on the right hand side of this page which sections you have completed. This tracking allows you to complete each section independently; you don't need to complete them all at once.
  • Once you have engaged with all four sections an email will automatically be sent to LDC to record your completion.

These resources will be available at any time, so feel free to return to them as and when you need to.
