The individual nominates around ten other people from whom they would like to receive feedback, one of whom is usually the individual’s line manager. Each of these respondents, and the individual, then complete a questionnaire, which typically takes less than fifteen minutes. The replies go directly to an external organisation, generally on-line via the internet although it is possible to use paper-based questionnaires and reply-paid envelopes.
The external organisation compiles a feedback report and sends this electronically to a facilitator. The facilitator then spends between ninety minutes and two hours in a face to face meeting with the individual, helping them to understand their feedback and coaching them to set development goals and plans as a result.
