This is an introduction to setting up and running focus group projects for staff who are involved in focus group projects for market research purposes.

Who is it for?

It is designed for those conducting market research projects, rather than academic research.

Whether you run focus groups yourself or commission external agencies, this course is suitable as an introduction or a refresher for more experienced staff.

From planning a focus group project and writing questions to taking part in a ‘live’ focus groups, Focus Group Training will provide you with useful tips and hints on running your own project.

Objectives:

By the end of the session you will have:

  • An understanding of when to use focus groups
  • An appreciation of how to plan an effective focus group project
  • Practiced running a focus group
  • An understanding of the skills you need in order to moderate focus groups

Is there anything else I need to know?

This session is run in 2 parts (2 x 2 and a half hour sessions on separate days). Part one covers focus group theory and planning. Part two is a more practical session covering focus group moderation. Participants need to complete part one in order to complete part two.

Participants will need to complete a short task between parts 1 and 2.
