Course Overview Dates, venues and booking

Introduction to Influencing skills is part of a blended learning programme.

This course will enable you to be a more confident 'influencer' at work. It will provide you with an understanding of concepts which underpin influencing and will help you to prepare for meetings or conversations in which you want to influence others. It is suitable for anyone who wants to develop their communication skills and behaviours which create influence.

Topics covered include understanding behaviours, influencing styles, preparing and planning for an influential conversation.

Please complete the e-learning course available on Moodle before booking yourself onto a skills workshop session.

You must complete this online course prior to attending the skills workshop.

Online Course (30-45 minutes)

N.B. Once you have completed the online course and attended the workshop session you can re-access this e-learning course as a reminder/ to refresh your knowledge and awareness of influencing skills.

Who is it for?

It is designed for all University staff with little or no knowledge of the subject and may also be suitable for anyone who wants to develop their influencing skills.

E-learning course objectives:

By the end of this e-learning course you will be able to:

  • Explain what influencing is and the benefits of influencing
  • Describe concepts and models that underpin influencing
  • Identify a range of tools and techniques that support influencing

Is there anything else I need to know?

The workshop is scheduled to last 3 hours. It builds on the e-learning module by providing you with the opportunity to practise skills and techniques. The e-learning course will take approximately 30-45 minutes to complete.

In advance of the workshop please ensure that you:

1. Complete the 'Introduction to influencing skills’ course on Moodle

2. Think about and be prepared to discuss a situation in which you wish to improve your influencing

Workshop objectives:

Building on theory, models and techniques covered in the e-learning course, by the end of this workshop you will be able to:

  • Use influencing techniques to achieve a successful outcome in an identified situation
  • Identify influencing tools and techniques appropriate to a range of situations
  • Demonstrate skills that create influence
