Writing for the Web

Who is it for?

Any Warwick staff member who writes or edits digital copy for the University.

We recommend that you attend if you are responsible for managing a website at Warwick. The principles can also be applied to work on social media.

    Session Objectives

By the end of the session you will have:

    • An appreciation of the fundamental principles which underpin effective webpages
    • An understanding of successful approaches to planning digital copy
    • Ideas on how you can improve your web content
    • Confidence in how best to appeal to your audience
    • Knowledge of how to optimise your content for search engines
    • A list of resources to help you in your future digital copywriting

Is there anything else I need to know?

We will ask you to bring an example of some online copy that you want to write or refresh to the class. You will be taking part in a practical exercise to rewrite this during the class, so you may also find it useful to bring a laptop if you have one.

This session assumes previous knowledge of SiteBuilder, the University's web publishing tool. Attendance at the Copywriting for Warwick session is not essential but may be helpful.

    Led by:

Katharine Beer (Digital Team) and Keith Gabriel (External Affairs).
