'Shine' Women's Development Programme

Update: SHINE is currently on hold as the programme can only be delivered face-to-face.

‘Shine’ is a Women’s Development Programme for those in grades 3-5 in Professional Services (including professional service colleagues in academic departments), Estates and CCSG. This programme is typically aimed at individuals who are performing well in their current role and have an aspiration to progress into different roles at the University in the next 1-3 years but, would gain from having a greater awareness of their personal values, strengths and to gain confidence in themselves in different environments.

Coaching and mentoring

Coaching and mentoring can be a valuable process to help someone to enhance their performance, improve working relationships, develop their capability or manage their career. Some departments offer informal, internal mentoring opportunities, but a range of opportunities are also available via Organisational Development. The University runs a volunteer-based Coaching and Mentoring scheme, which is open to all staff. Visit the coaching and mentoring site for more information on the scheme and other opportunities.


Aurora is a women-only leadership development initiative which aims to encourage a wide range of women in academic and professional roles to think of themselves as leaders, to develop leadership skills, and to help institutions maximise the potential of these women. This development programme is for women who are considering a first step into leadership, where they will be operating at grades 6-8, who are ambitious for a career in the sector and interested in developing their leadership and management skills.

How Warwick Works: Shadowing & Development Scheme for Academics

One aspect of preparing academic colleagues for the possible next steps in leadership is providing opportunities for relevant and accurate understanding of what senior roles involve. How Warwick works aims to support the career development of colleagues currently at Professor or Senior Associate Professor level (or equivalent on teaching only or research only contracts) in a leadership role within their department.
