New/Updated Versions Available February 2015

A revised version of the SOPs were considered and approved in February 2015 by the GMBSC following discussion by the Human Samples Steering Group.

HTA Training events

Knowing Your Responsibilities

As part of the registration process for all staff and students undertaking research using human samples, it is a requirement that you attend this introductory training session run by the University’s Designated Individual under the HTA Licence, Professor John Davey.

The session will provide an overview of the legislation and regulation related to the acquisition, storage, use and disposal of human tissue, and of the University’s quality management system and related processes, procedures and best practice. You will also receive your Training Portfolio at the session and be given advice and guidance to ensure your activities are compliant with the requirements of the University’s HTA Licence.

All staff and students involved in research using human samples are required to attend.

HTA Legal Directions

Under the Human Tissue Act, the HTA has the power to issue its expected standards (or Directions) to establishments. This means that the HTA can issue general Directions to establishments to take into account changes in policy and legislation. The HTA may also make Directions that are specific to a particular establishment. For more information and new directions that have been issued please see:
