Overseas Ethics Committees

For any research being undertaken overseas, approval should be sought from the countries involved from their own local Ethics Committees, and in line with that countries legislation and regulations. Researcher are also advised to check whether subsequent approval is also required by an appropriate research ethics committee in the UK. For research involving Human Tissue being brought into the UK from a participating country, the Ethical Approval must be translated into English where necessary by an approved translator, the researcher should ensure that the overseas ethics approval allows for the samples to be transferred to the University.

Please note that any researcher who wants to conduct a clinical trial overseas must contact their R&IS Departmental Officer prior to beginning the research or submitting for ethics approval.
