What does a URSS bursary cover?

A URSS bursary contributes to your living expenses and other associated costs whilst carrying out your project (e.g. travel costs, accommodation, subsistence, childcare, conference registration). Each applicant can request up to a maximum amount of £1000 if they wish to conduct their research in the UK, whilst international research projects can be awarded a maximum of £1500. You may need to top up your bursary if it is not sufficient to cover all the costs of your research project. You will be required to justify your bursary on the application form by providing a fully researched breakdown of projected costs.

Please note: if you have already received funding from the URSS to carry out a research project you will NOT eligible to apply for another bursary. You can, however, apply for alternative sources funding (e.g. Energy GRP, Infineum, EPSRC or departmental funding where available).

The bursary cannot be used to purchase project-related equipment or services (e.g. laboratory consumables or other equipment, photocopying, library access cards).
