The URSS Mentor Essentials is highly recommended. There are 3 dates/times available in June:
- Monday 13th June 2016 - 5:30pm until 7:30pm (R0.03/4)
- Tuesday 14th June 2016 - 5:30pm until 7:30pm (H5.45)
- Thursday 16th June 2016 - 5:30pm until 7:30pm (R0.03/4)
This session will clarify the requirements of the URSS and the deadline for submissions. It is your first opportunity to meet some of the other participants also completing a research project over the summer and your URSS Mentor. Your URSS Mentor is a Warwick postgraduate student currently completing (or has recently completed) their doctorate.
Your URSS Mentor will comment on your Portfolio posts as you complete them. As they are also immersed in the world of research, they are perfectly placed to congratulate or commiserate with you and offer you advice, guidance and support as the need arises. Therefore, we strongly encourage you to seize the opportunity in meeting them in person.
By the end of the briefing you will have got to know your fellow URSS Experience participants, looked at working in a research environment and identified a personal and an academic goal for your project.
PLEASE NOTE - please prepare a brief (30 second) but explanatory introduction to you and your project. This will later become your elevator pitch.
During the briefing, you will refine your pitch and also hear other URSS participants introduce their research ideas to you. Note down their name and department and try to identify one similarity and one difference between their project and yours, however tenuous!
Please see below a guide to structuring your introduction:
|Your name||Project Department||General subject area||What are you doing in this subject area?||Why is it interesting to you?|
