Warwick retains University of Sanctuary statusĀ

May 2021.

Warwick has been successful in retaining our University of Sanctuary (UoS) status.

We remain committed to creating a culture of welcome for people seeking sanctuary within and beyond campus, having been officially recognised as a University of Sanctuary since establishing a scholars fund for refugees in 2017.

Our re-accreditation not only acknowledges our support of Sanctuary Scholars, ensuring they have successful and positive student experiences, and further are contributing to wider efforts to understand and support refugees and asylum seekers in the surrounding communities, but also recognises our good practice in the below key areas:

  • Our commitment to removing barriers to accessing HE for migrant students through the number of bursaries, undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships available.
  • Recognising further barriers and making the International Foundation Programme and Business School Foundation programme available to Sanctuary students.
  • A good representation of members from across the University to the UoS Working Group and good senior leadership to ensure work is sustainable and the projects well-embedded within the University structure.
  • Ensuring the Migration, Identity and Translation Network has a great reach and facilitates engagement with topics relating to sanctuary on a wider scale.
  • An impressive student volunteering programme and Warwick Student Action for Refugees group.
  • Strong internal and external links between sanctuary initiatives and relevant sector organisations, networks and volunteers including Coventry City of Sanctuary.
