Over 60 University of Warwick students and eight staff members will descend on the city of Sheffield this weekend for BUCS Nationals 2018. The event, which is in its sixth year, is the largest multi-sport competition in the UK with around 6000 students competing across eight sports from Friday 16 – Sunday 18 February.
Events will be hosted in world-class facilities, which include Ponds Forge International Swimming Centre and the English Institute of Sport. Amongst those representing Team Warwick will be fencing scholarship athletes; James Brosnan and Katrina Feklistova. The pair will take to the piste in the Men’s and Women’s Foil events respectively, with high hopes of performing well.
Our fencing team will be joined at the event by eight support staff, including a Sports Therapist and Strength and Conditioning Coach for the very first time, as well as representatives from Athletics, Badminton, Judo, Karate, Rifle and Swimming as Team Warwick go in search of some silverware to bring back to campus.
Both Warwick Sport Director of Sport and Active Communities – Lisa Dodd-Mayne and Warwick Students’ Union Sports Officer – Ellie Martin have praised the fantastic opportunity for students to represent their university on a national stage and pass on their good luck wishes to all those competing over the weekend.
All events are free to attend. If you are interested in attending please email M dot Nicholson dot 1 at warwick dot ac dot uk.
