Take your next workout outside as a new outdoor activity zone is to be built on Claycroft Park, The University of Warwick. The expected completion date is 14 August. After that it is free to use for staff, students and locals. With a variety of equipment, the Activity Zone will host a basketball half court, trampolines, through to a yoga area, with a workout zone in between, and can be used by individuals without needing instruction. As plans progress with the new Sports Hub developments, the University is keen to ensure accessible sporting provisions are situated all across the campus.
Following extensive consultation with students and staff at the University, Claycroft Park was chosen as the location for the new hub and is located behind the Claycroft residences and close to Cannon Park Tesco. Classes, personal trainers, clubs and individuals will benefit from being in a tranquil and natural setting with little distraction from the buzz of central campus. A dedicated programme will support the new zone, showcasing what Warwick Sport and the clubs have to offer, and with free 24/7 access, individuals are invited to make use of the space for social and competitive sporting activity.
Warwick Sports’ director Lisa Dodd-Mayne says:
“Our vision is clear – we want to ensure our campus is an active one, and offers opportunities for everyone to be active in their way, at times to suit them. The Activity Zone offers a unique opportunity to do just that in a beautiful setting. We hope that people will enjoy using the facility and as a result, become more active!”
The University of Warwick has a vision to be the most active campus in the UK by 2020. The aim is to develop an inspiring and aspirational environment where students, staff, coaches and support staff are offered premium facilities to enhance their overall experience. The facilities will offer a campus environment that supports sport, health and wellness for students, staff, partners and visitors, transforming the delivery and context of sport and wellness.
The University of Warwick has appointed The Great Outdoor Gym Company to design and implement the activity zone in 2017, and the production will take 1 month to complete, with an expected finish date of 14 August. Part of the set up will be a half basketball court trampolines, functional rig, swings, yoga / mindfulness area, 20m sprint area, energy bikes, cross trainer and cardio arms.
