University of Antwerp - International Week on Sustainability
The University of Antwerp, Belgium are running their International Week on Sustainability from 24th March - 28th March 2025.
We are thrilled to offer 10 second or third students the opportunity to be nominated to attend a 1 week programme with the University of Antwerp without paying the normal fee of €240.
The Faculty of Business and Economics introduced the award-winning course 'International Week on Sustainability', or I-Week, in 2014 to embed international exposure into the students' curriculum. This programme is specifically targeted towards students studying GSD, Economics or Business related courses.
The I-week can be followed online or on campus. Please note if you'd like to attend in person, you need to fund your own travel and accommodation. We are unable to provide any other funding support other than the waivered participation fee.
**This opportunity has now closed. All students will hear the outcome of their application by Friday 13th December 2024.**
The course consists of 5 interactive days of presentations, discussions and workshops during which students are exposed to international academics, sustainability experts and CEOs. The I-week can be followed online or on campus. The programme received the UAntwerp Education Award for innovation and internationalisation.
It is the flagship programme of our internationalization-at-home measures and an obligatory event for all our 3rd year bachelor students and a great way for participants to have an international experience during their studies, even those participating online.
That international element comes from :
- High-level international speakers in the plenary sessions and parallel workshops from 5 continents (in 2025). Please see attached the overview and abstracts of the speakers in the 2024 edition.
- A round-table discussion from international CEOs from 4 or 5 continents who will testify to what extent and how their respective companies address the question of SDM and sustainability in general
- International student group work under the guidance of a professor on a question related to sustainability. The groups consist of 6 or 7 students from at least 4 continents. They meet in groups throughout the week to work on their research question and then have to present/defend their project at the end of the i-week in front of their accompanying professor. That work and the presentation is then graded. Please find attached the syllabus/course/handout for international students.
A great event for students to:
-interact with professionals and academics about economic, ecological and ethical sustainability;
-listen to an interdisciplinary debate and tackle a “wicked” problem together with students from other faculties;
-analyze a current sustainability issue through group work with other international students;
-create and present a poster that summarizes the analyzed issue;
-meet students from all around the world;
-improve their language and intercultural skills.
