The University is seeking an internal candidate to succeed Professor Louise Gracia as Dean of Students (0.6FTE) after she completes her term of office. The appointment will be for a 3 year period with effect from 1 August 2019. This institution-wide important role will be responsible for the continued development and enhancement of our Personal and Senior Tutoring networks and, as a member of the Education Executive, will be a key leader in implementing the Education Strategy.
The role of Dean of Students provides strategic leadership of academic pastoral support at the University. The purpose of this role is to operate at institutional level to support the enhancement of the student experience and to ensure that the academic pastoral needs of students are considered in institutional strategic developments and delivery.
In recognition of the importance of the academic pastoral experience, the Dean of Students will have line accountability for the Faculty Senior Tutors who undertake the duties of the existing Senior Tutor role on a local Faculty basis working with Departmental Senior Tutors. The ongoing investments in both the Dean of Students role and the Senior Tutor resource is in recognition of the importance of academic pastoral support to the student experience and the University’s Education strategy. The Dean of Students is a member of the Education Executive and will continue to lead the development of the wider personal tutor network and see through the recent Review of Personal Tutoring.
