About University Legal Services

The University Legal Services section is headed by the University Legal Advisor and reports directly to the Registrar. It is located on the second floor of University House near to Kirby Corner Road on Central Campus. The section works on a number of legal matters, as well as with colleagues across other departments including Research Support Services, the Finance Office, Warwick Ventures, the Library and others. We also consult with external legal support where required.

We want to ensure that in all University processes, procedures and contractual arrangements, staff are taking into account relevant legal issues at an early stage and are seeking out advice to ensure they are legally compliant, not only to guard against risk but also to add value to the institution. Our intention is that with all legal matters the following practice will be observed:

  • For staff to deal with basic issues proactively at a local level where standardised guidance/templates has been issued by our team;
  • For staff to consult with us (or the other relevant contacts) on more complex issues;
  • For us to consult external legal support where further guidance is required, as appropriate.

We also work to ensure that all existing University procedures and regulations are legally compliant as well as representing the University's interests in communications with individuals and associations external to the University.
