Universities of Birmingham and Warwick form spinout company, 4D Medicine Ltd, to take new family of biomedical 3D printing resins to market
The Universities of Birmingham and Warwick have created a new spinout company, 4D Medicine Ltd, to commercialise a new class of materials – liquid resins that can be printed into solid 3D scaffolds to help patients recover from major medical procedures more quickly.
The work being done at University of Warwick, in collaboration with Iceni Diagnostics, around developing a new approach to rapid coronavirus diagnostics has been featured on the BBC. VirionHealth Ltd, a new biotechnology company developing novel therapeutics for respiratory viral infections, today announced that it has raised up to £13 million in Series A funding from Abingworth, the international investment group dedicated to life sciences.
VirionHealth is a University of Warwick spinout company, set up with the support of Warwick Ventures, in 2017. Dr Laura Lane, Business Development Manager at Warwick Ventures, worked closely with Professors Nigel Dimmock and Andrew Easton to build a commercial team and secure the largest single investment into a Warwick spinout.
Warwick Ventures also helped secure translational funding from the Wellcome Trust, maintained the patents and developed the business plan that led to the investment by Abingworth.
Congratulations to Professor Laura Green, Head of the School of Life Sciences at the University of Warwick, who has been shortlisted for an Innovator of the Year award from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).
Warwick Ventures has supported the translation of Professor Green's research, which focuses on reducing lameness in sheep flocks. The award winners will be announced on 24 May 2017.
