Universities of Birmingham and Warwick form spinout company, 4D Medicine Ltd, to take new family of biomedical 3D printing resins to market

The Universities of Birmingham and Warwick have created a new spinout company, 4D Medicine Ltd, to commercialise a new class of materials – liquid resins that can be printed into solid 3D scaffolds to help patients recover from major medical procedures more quickly.

Warwick researchers bid to revolutionise coronavirus testing features on BBC News

The work being done at University of Warwick, in collaboration with Iceni Diagnostics, around developing a new approach to rapid coronavirus diagnostics has been featured on the BBC. New diagnostic tool for rapid detection of Coronavirus being developed by University of Warwick and Partners

Coronavirus diagnostics currently require centralised facilities and collection/distribution of swabs and results are ‘next day’. A new diagnostic tool being developed by the University of Warwick and its partner Iceni Diagnostics may allow on-the-spot detection of Coronavirus infection, without facilities using a simple disposal device.

Freezing cells made safer thanks to new polymer

A new cryoprotectant polymer that dramatically improves the freezing of cells, has been discovered by researchers at the University of Warwick. The new polymers can reduce the amount of organic solvent required in cryopreservation (freezing cells) as well as giving more and healthier cells after thawing. Findings may help reduce cost and improve distribution of cells for cell-based therapies, diagnostics and research

Base4 Innovation Ltd. closes £5 million ($6.5 million) funding round

Founded in 2007 with support from Warwick Ventures and the University of Warwick, Base4 has just closed a £5 million funding round, the company's largest to date. The funds will be used to expand the current team and increase lab space, facilitating the continued fast-paced development and automation of its technology.

VirionHealth Raises Series A Funding from Abingworth

virionhealth_signing.jpgVirionHealth Ltd, a new biotechnology company developing novel therapeutics for respiratory viral infections, today announced that it has raised up to £13 million in Series A funding from Abingworth, the international investment group dedicated to life sciences.

VirionHealth is a University of Warwick spinout company, set up with the support of Warwick Ventures, in 2017. Dr Laura Lane, Business Development Manager at Warwick Ventures, worked closely with Professors Nigel Dimmock and Andrew Easton to build a commercial team and secure the largest single investment into a Warwick spinout.

Warwick Ventures also helped secure translational funding from the Wellcome Trust, maintained the patents and developed the business plan that led to the investment by Abingworth.

Head of Life Sciences shortlisted for BBSRC Innovation Award

Congratulations to Professor Laura Green, Head of the School of Life Sciences at the University of Warwick, who has been shortlisted for an Innovator of the Year award from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).

Warwick Ventures has supported the translation of Professor Green's research, which focuses on reducing lameness in sheep flocks. The award winners will be announced on 24 May 2017.

University of Warwick recognised by Bill Gates for work to combat neglected tropical diseases

Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has recognised the work being done by the University of Warwick to combat neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in a speech at the Geneva Summit on NTDs.
