&lt;p&gt;Naar aanleiding van het 25-jarig bestaan van de Sartonleerstoel voor de Geschiedenis van de Wetenschappen vindt op 28 april 2011 om 20u een publiek debat over wetenschap en globalisering plaats in de Aula van de Universiteit Gent (Volderstraat 9, 9000 Gent).&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Na een korte inleiding van Christophe Verbruggen (docent Vakgroep Geschiedenis en co-promotor van UGentMemorie) met als titel &lt;em&gt;Het grote buitenland van de Universiteit Gent. George Sarton en de internationale aspiraties van Isis&lt;/em&gt; gaat een panel van prominente sprekers met elkaar en het publiek in discussie over de vraag: is wetenschap westers? en andere belangrijke vragen rond wetenschap en globalisering.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;De panelleden hebben expertise in verschillende wereldregio&amp;rsquo;s: Karel Davids (VU Amsterdam, voor Europa), Michiel Leezenberg (Universiteit van Amsterdam, voor het Nabije Oosten), Anne Gerritsen (University of Warwick, voor China), en Koenraad Stroeken (Universiteit Gent, voor Afrika). Het debat wordt gemodereerd door Geerdt Magiels (o.m. &lt;em&gt;De Standaard&lt;/em&gt;), en volledig in het Nederlands gevoerd.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Georganiseerd voor het Sartoncomit&amp;eacute; door het Centrum voor Wetenschapsgeschiedenis (Sven Dupr&amp;eacute; en Maarten Van Dyck) in samenwerking met de onderzoeksgroepen &lt;em&gt;Continuity and Change in the pre-Modern Islamic World&lt;/em&gt; en &lt;em&gt;Communities, Comparisons, Connections &lt;/em&gt;(Jo Van Steenbergen), en de vakgroepen Talen en Culturen van Zuid- en Oost-Azi&amp;euml; (Bart Dessein) en Afrikaanse Talen en Culturen (Karel Arnaut) van de Faculteit Letteren en Wijsbegeerte, en met steun van de Cel Wetenschapscommunicatie van de Universiteit Gent.&lt;/p&gt;
