Three HetSys students, George Simmons, Luca Gasparro, and Rumesh Sudhaharan, recently took part in a major national training event at the Isaac Newton Institute (INI) in Cambridge. The workshop, jointly delivered by INI and the Gateway to Research programme, focused on strengthening essential professional skills for early‑career researchers, including science communication, research ethics, and industry engagement.

The week‑long workshop forms part of a growing national effort to support PhD researchers in developing the broader competencies needed for collaborative, responsible, and impactful research careers.
