      <title>MAS CDT Annual Conference 2019 - learning all about sun care in the wettest week of the year.....</title>

      <description>&lt;div class="news-thumbnail" style="float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-bottom: 5px;"&gt;&lt;img class="thumbnail" width="100" height="100" src="https://warwick.ac.uk/sitebuilder2/file/fac/sci/mas/news/news?sbrPage=%2Ffac%2Fsci%2Fmas%2Fnews%2Fnews&amp;newsItem=8a17841b6b565245016b6b0b87763dc8" alt="image"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;p&gt;The Annual MAS CDT conference took place in Somerset last week at the beautiful &lt;a href="http://www.knowlemanor.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"&gt;Knowle Manor&lt;/a&gt; on the edge of Exmoor. At the conference all MAS CDT students from MSc to PhD have an opportunity to present their project with a talk and poster.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;We were fortunate to be joined by Laurent Blasco from Lubrizol who talked about sun care and careers in cosmetics as the rain poured down outside.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;All MSc and PhD students presented their work and prizes were awarded as follows:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;MSc Poster Prize:&lt;/strong&gt; 1st place Monica Kumar, 2nd place: Adil Ajmal&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;PhD Poster Prize:&lt;/strong&gt; 1st place: Martin Lea, Joint 2nd place: Rhiannon Brooks and Kelsey Cremin&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;PhD Talk Prize:&lt;/strong&gt; 1st place: Bryan Marzullo, 2nd place: Ruben Tomas&lt;/p&gt;

      <title>MAS CDT student Mary Thomas wins best student talk prize at BMSS</title>

Based upon collaborative research with the &lt;a style="transition: color 0.3s linear, text-decoration-color 0.15s linear, -webkit-text-decoration-color 0.15s linear; text-align: justify; color: #3f4246; text-transform: none; text-indent: 0px; letter-spacing: normal; font-family: Lato, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400; word-spacing: 0px; white-space: normal; box-sizing: border-box; orphans: 2; widows: 2; background-color: #ffffff; font-variant-ligatures: common-ligatures; font-variant-caps: normal; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px;" href="https://www.bgs.ac.uk/home.html"&gt;British Geological Survey&lt;/a&gt;, Mary presented her talk entitled &#8220;Petroleomic Depth Profiling of Contaminated Staten Island Soil by GC and FT-ICR MS.&#8221; Using Rock-Eval 6 data and ultrahigh resolution mass spectrometry, complex compositional depth profiles were developed for environmental monitoring and to provide insight into the site&#8217;s history of contamination.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

      <title>MAS CDT Student Emily Holt wins prestigious prize at Australian Conference</title>

Emily who is only in the first year of her PhD in Analytical Science is studying &amp;quot;Ultrafast Laser Spectroscopy for Suncare Applications&amp;quot;. Emily presented a 30 minute talk on her paper and was pleasantly surprised to later find she had won the &lt;a href="http://www.ascc.com.au/lester-conrad-award/"&gt;Lester Conrad Award&lt;/a&gt; for best paper presented at the conference.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
