Forecasting the future of work: the ISABEL framework

The Warwick Institute for Employment Research (IER) is a key partner in ISABEL, a pioneering Horizon Europe project dedicated to managing labour market shifts triggered by the green and digital transitions. Running from November 2024 to November 2027, the project utilises AI-powered analytics to minimise the costs and maximise the benefits of job creation and destruction. Led by Dr Sangwoo Lee, the IER team, including Dr Gianni Anelli-Lopez, Prof Derek Bosworth, Luke Bosworth, and Rosie Day, is developing robust forecasting methodologies.

Supporting the digital and green transitions

IER's Peter Dickinson joined meetings in the Horizon Bridges 5.0 project in Vienna.

He led one of the workshops as part of the foresight element of the project, discussing the policy implications across a range of potential scenarios that the transitions might bring.

IER at the CIPD Conference

IER’s Peter Dickinson participated in the Evidence Lab at the CIPD's Annual Conference in Manchester. He gave a presentation on the main findings emerging from the work IER has been doing on the implications of the green transition for jobs and skills. Following this there was a Q&A session with the audience.

IER in Islamabad

IER was invited to contribute to the ‘TVET in the Shifting of Socio-Economic Paradigm’ conference in Islamabad on the 2nd-3rd October. Peter Dickinson represented IER on the panel of the 'Greening and Transforming TVET for more Resilient and Sustainable Economy' session. He spoke about IER's work analysing the impact of the green and digital transitions on jobs and skills.

Using data from Scotland, their article ‘A Just Transition? Green jobs, good jobs and labour market inclusivity in Scotland’ presents mixed findings.

IER director at Global Labour Markets Conference

In February IER Director, Chris Warhurst, was an invited speaker at in the Global Labour Markets Conference in Riyadh. It is a new, annual event involving the World Bank, ILO and United Nations, global trade union organisations and C-suite business leaders. Chris participated in two sessions, the first a presidential style ‘gloves off’ debate about skills and AI and the second presenting IER’s work on green jobs and a just transition.

New research on green and hydrogen jobs in the Midlands

A report produced by IER's Jeisson Cardenas Rubio, Jamelia Harris and Chris Warhurst presents findings from an analysis of green and hydrogen jobs in the Midlands.

The study utilised data from the Labour Force Survey and the IER database of online job vacancy postings. It distinguished three types of green jobs.
