Philosophy Department Graduate Adam Neal Becomes an IAS Fellow

Congratulations to Adam Neal, a graduate of the Department of Philosophy, who has been awarded a prestigious Institute of Advanced Study (IAS) Fellowship for 2022/23. Adam says:

“I’m really excited to be joining the IAS. Over the next year I’m looking forward to developing my research portfolio through preparing my PhD research for publications and organising an interdisciplinary workshop (around April 2023) which seeks to explore the nature of sociability, particularly focussing on sociability in the context of work and education. I’m currently organising 2 online book launch events for my co-edited collection (along with Kimberley Brownlee and David Jenkins, see link below), due to take place on 2nd December and 15th December. Additionally, I’m hoping to get involved in the Editorial Board of the Exchanges journal and to develop new interdisciplinary research networks.”

Dr Thomas Crowther is a Commendee in this year’s WATE Awards, which recognises his outstanding contribution to the teaching of Philosophy during the course of this academic year. Tom says:

I am very happy to have been recognised through WATE. I am very proud to be a teacher, and particularly proud to be a teacher at the University of Warwick. I care very much about the work I do in teaching and supporting my students, whether it is inside or outside the classroom. Being recognized by WATE is evidence that I am doing at least something right! This will invigorate me to develop further as a teacher; particularly in negotiating the challenges of moving to blended learning.

Irene Dal Poz and Lorenzo Serini have also won awards in the WATE PGR category. This award acknowledges respectively both Irene and Lorenzo’s gifts of communication and their imaginative flair for engaging students through their teaching.

Official Launch of the New Research Centre for Post-Kantian European Philosophy

The launch of the new Research Centre for Post-Kantian European Philosophy took place on Tuesday 15 October 2019, with an inaugural seminar led by Guest Speaker, Simon Critchley (Hans Jonas Professor of Philosophy, New School for Social Research) on the concept of Tragedy.

In his talk, deriving from his new publication, Tragedy, the Greeks and Us, Professor Critchley explored the nature and experience of Tragedy, both in terms of what it meant to the Greeks, and what it might mean for us today. The seminar concluded with his reply to two responses to the book by Andrew Cooper (Philosophy, Warwick) and David Fearn (Classics, Warwick).

A recording of Simon Critchley in conversation with Keith Ansell-Pearson, Director, and Daniele Lorenzini, Deputy Director of the Centre for Research in Post-Kantian European Philosophy, can be accessed on the Research Centre's new pages here:
