University of Warwick welcomes schools for FABFest 2023

FABFest took place on Wednesday 28^th June, welcoming over sixty pupils from five Coventry and Warwickshire secondary schools to the Faculty of Arts Building. The day was targeted at Year 8 students (aged 12 to 13 years old), with the aim of allowing students to experience and explore a range of subjects and to inspire students to think about future subject choices in the Arts and Humanities.

Arts FABFest 2023: Schools Taster Day

Wednesday 28 June is our Arts FABFest 2023 Schools event. We are looking forward to welcoming 90+ year 8 students and their teachers from 5 local schools to an exciting programme of events put on by Faculty of Arts departments and the Warwick Arts Centre.

From sessions on multi-lingual Harry Potter to a Classics Roman Cookery session or a chance to experience a Virtual Reality environment. It is a showcase event about the Arts taking place within the RIBA award-winning FAB building, but also outside experiencing the wonders of the University's Sculpture Trail.

WASWASA: Whispers in Prayer

Dr James Hodkinson from the School of Modern Languages and Cultures has been collaborating with Birmingham-based Soul City Arts on their latest project, Waswasa: a multi-disciplinary art show staged in an immersive setting at Birmingham Hippodrome, using real-life community narratives to explore the act of Islamic prayer and what that means in a modern, secular society.

Lead artist Mohammed Ali and his team aim to demystify this familiar yet misunderstood tradition through an extraordinary multi-media show that will challenge perceptions. The show relates deeply to people of no faith too, as we all struggle with achieving that higher state of focus with things like social media, technology and other distractions dominating our lives.

Students, staff and members of the local community are invited to the official opening of the Faculty of Arts Building (FAB) taking place at midday on Friday, 20 May. The opening ceremony, where a festive glass of fizz will be provided for all guests, will be followed by FAB Fest – a festival celebrating the arts at Warwick.
