UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has today unveiled plans to transform how talented international students are able build successful careers in the UK through a new immigration route which enables international students to work in the UK for two years post graduation.

Updated on 16.06.20: In view of the coronavirus pandemic, UKVI published new guidance (paragraph 3.22 - 3.25) which states that if a new student starts a course on 'blended' learning or distance learning, they will be eligible to apply for the graduate route as long as they physically arrive in the UK before 6 April 2021, and have a valid visa when the scheme is launched (in the summer of 2021).

Update on 10.02.20: UKCISA published an analysis of the new Graduate Route and the likely eligibility of students and their dependants.

Update on 14.10.2019: The Home Office published further details regarding the scheme, confirming that students on a degree level (or above) course who hold a valid Tier 4 visa and graduate in the summer of 2021 will be eligible.
