The University is deeply saddened to report the death of undergraduate student, Gabby Han, who passed away recently.
Gabby was a third year student, studying Chemistry.
Mike Ward, Head of the Chemistry department, says:
"Gabby has always been a smiley face and a keen student who loved being a part of our Department. Having enjoyed laboratory projects during the vacations, she had plans to carry on research in the summer term and beyond. She has always been an endless source of questions, comments, opinions and energy, and she will be greatly missed by us all.
"We send our deepest condolences to Gabby’s parents and wider family. Gabby was a vivacious and popular member of our community and had made many friends here at the University and further afield and we extend our condolences to them as well."
The funeral will take place at Bentley Cemetery & Crematorium, Brentwood at 10.30 am on Wednesday 11 March and will continue with the main memorial service and celebration at 12 noon at the Billericay Baptist Church. The family has requested a dress code of colourful attire.
If you would like to attend the funeral, please RSVP directly to the family using the contact details on the invitation. The Chemistry department will be making arrangements for coach travel to and from the main memorial service and celebration at 12 noon. Should you wish to be included in these travel arrangements, please let the Chemistry UG office know in person or by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) by Monday 9 March 2020.
Arrangements will be made to watch a live stream of the short ceremony at 10.30am on March 11 in the Chaplaincy for those who may be unable to travel but would still wish to celebrate and remember Gabby on this day.
A Book of Condolence for any personal messages will be available in the Chaplaincy on the day of the memorial service. It will then be left in the Chemistry Department for a week or so after the funeral before it is passed to Gabby’s family.
