Welcome Weekend (22 and 23 September) saw over 650 staff and volunteers come together to help move in over 5,000 of our on-campus residents. Chris Luck, Head of Welcome and Student Internationalisation Manager, reflects back on how the weekend went.
A huge logistical operation, the arrivals process involves significant collaboration between Campus Security, Student Reception, Residential Life Team, Estates, Warwick Accommodation, and the Welcome Team.
This year the arrivals process was significantly bigger than in previous years (as with the advent of Welcome Week we moved in international students, postgrads, and undergrads over the same time period). We’re delighted that, due to a lot of collective hard work, the process ran smoothly without delays on the local road network. New students and their parents complimented the smooth-running operation and the energy of those on the ground.
Did you know?
- We also delivered a successful Airport Transfer service for over 500 of our new international students coming up from Heathrow and Birmingham International airports
- Over 500 students moving into off-campus, Warwick Accommodation managed properties also collected their keys this weekend
- A wide range of staff help to deliver Welcome Week. Read more about some of them here.
Welcome Weekend also saw major events take place in the Oculus and Students’ Union buildings. Our Welcome Talks to parents (delivered six times by the Vice Chancellor, Director of Wellbeing & Safeguarding, and a current student!) were well attended and well received, as were the four Student Q&A sessions that we ran. The SU and Piazza were alive with a great buzz and provided a fantastic atmosphere throughout the weekend.
As ever, we’re keen to hear feedback on Welcome Weekend from your perspective. Our feedback form is now available and we’re grateful to anyone for taking the time.
Now, onto Welcome Week! Good luck to those running events; remember to direct any lost students to the Information Points in the Piazza and on Library Road – email firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions."
