Lu Ping (David), head of the delegation, came from Shanghai Municipal Port Administration Bureau of PR China, where he has been Director of the Shanghai Port Construction Engineering Safety and Quality Supervisory Station since December 1999. Prior to this, as Assistant Manager, he was in charge of port engineering and technical management for the Shanghai Waogaoqiao Port Terminal Company.
He graduated from Tongji University in China, where he gained a BSc based on Engineering Mechanics in 1988 and an MSc based on Geotechnical Engineering in 1991.
He was appointed senior engineer in 2000 and safety expert by the local government last year. Now he is working in port infrastructure construction.
Shanghai is the largest port city on the Chinese mainland and one of the world’s largest entry ports. In 2005, Shanghai Port handled 443 million tons of cargo, up 16.9% over the previous year thus making it the largest port in the world. He has, therefore, more responsibility for ensuring and improving port construction engineering quality and safety conditions.
He wishes to learn more about public safety and engineering administration knowledge whilst studying at the University of Warwick.
For fun he likes playing football and bridge in his leisure time.
