Dear all, Whilst I’ve been reading, I’ve been really struck by how many test batteries, inventories, scales and metrics are mentioned and apparently used in the US. I guess this plays into the origins of careers work there coming more from psychology rather than sociology, but it’s still a very stark difference with my service works. Does anyone know of a UK careers service that uses these kinds of tests (I’m particularly intrigued by the Minnesota Importance Questionnaire) and how they feel that they’re valuable. In the examples of their use I’ve found they generally seem to be used as pre-emptive ‘checks’ against what the client is presenting, and the time that they might take and the relative rarity of incongruence make me wonder how and why their use is justified. Is it more in private careers counselling sessions that you might find them? Lucy
