Welcome to the Organisations and Labour Markets module.
The focus of this module is on how career develops in the context of labour markets and of organisations. Through the module, participants will work on evaluating and using sources of information about labour markets and organisations. We will consider this in the light of the policy and practices that affect the organsation of career development and coaching support. We will consider ethical and organisational issues in being a career development practitioner and how our own practice can be managed and developed.
Alongside the teaching days at the University of Warwick on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 March 2015, participants are invited to work through these online materials and core readings.
Saying hello in the forum
The forum is used thoughout the module to facilitate responses to exercises and formative assessment. It is our space and only module registrants and staff can see our posts. As a first step, you are asked to introduce yourself in the module forum. As a blended learning module, it is helpful if other people can see who is studying the module. Please do this now by clicking on this forum link and locating the thread entitled Saying hello in the forum.
It would be helpful if participants could view the video case study of 'Sue' prior to the teaching days, as we will discuss this example of practice as part of our learning.
Core and further reading
There are core readings linked to each of the online sections. All the core readings are provided in electronic format in the Core and further reading section. Further reading is signposted throughout the module and is listed below the core reading. Further reading is not supplied as the online lectures, workshop and core reading are designed to be self-contained.
There is a module reading pack provided with this module containing all the core readings. This includes: a preparatory reading from Inkson (2007) on 'Career as Resources'. All these core readings are also shown in bold in the further reading list. You should receive the pack in the post shortly and can contact email@example.com if any problems.
You are entitled and encouraged to have at least one tutorial as part of this module. Further tutorials can also be discussed as the need arises. Please see details in the Assignment pages.
Typical progress through the module
Month 1: say hello on the forum, engage in initial reading and attend workshop
Month 2: participate in formative assessment activity
