Using LMI in practice

I have identied three aspects to the use of LMI in career development and coaching practice:

  1. How do clients make sense of the information they take in about the labour market and how it operates?
  2. How do practitioners manage and update their own labour market information?
  3. How do practitioners mediate LMI with clients, through group work or coaching, and assist them in making sense of the available information?

As a basis for this section, we have reached an agreement with Warwick's Institute for Employment Research for students on this module to have access to their 'LMI Online Learning module'.

This can be accessed using this link, which will open a new window:

A link is also available on the publicly available LMI Learning module webpage.

This resource is available under license and you can find 'User terms of use' on the Terms and Conditions webpage.

By logging in to the LMI Learning module, it is assumed that you have accepted the University of Warwick's Acceptable Use Policy and the Module's Terms and Conditions of Use particularly the 'User terms of use'. Please ensure that ensure your registration details are secure and not shared with anyone.

All relevant Terms and Conditions of use documents and links to change your password are available from:

If you encounter any problems accessing or using the module, please email

There is a self-assessment tool and then three sections of materials you can work through of increasing complexity. We hope you find it a useful supplement to the module materials and are grateful to IER for their cooperation.
