Module running in 2015/16 and 2016/17
The Employability and Career Development Learning module enables participants to:
1/ Develop systematic knowledge and comprehensive understanding of the design, content, assessment, evaluation and management of employability and career development learning programmes in higher education.
2/ Develop confident and creative practice informed by key learning and career development concepts.
3/ Develop innovative and effective practice appropriate to a range of higher education contexts e.g. formal and informal, curriculum and non-curriculum-based.
By the end of the module the student should be able to:
1/ Systematically identify a range of learning theories and design perspectives relevant to employability and career development learning programmes in higher education.
2/ Comprehensively distinguish a range of roles and contexts relevant to the delivery of such programmes.
3/ Use learning theories and design perspectives to critically evaluate a programme.
4/ Comprehensively analyse the design of a programme.
5/ Systematically apply the knowledge listed above to enhance programme delivery.
6/ Use the knowledge listed above to creatively design a new or revised programme.
7/ Carefully and thoroughly present material in clear written form by identifying, analysing and applying key texts and practices using appropriate and adequate structure, spelling, grammar, syntax, length and referencing.

3/ Experiential learning theories (e.g. Kolb).
4/ Humanistic learning theories (e.g. Rogers).
5/ Social learning theories of career development (e.g. Krumboltz).
6/ Critical pedagogical approaches (e.g. Simon, Dippo & Schenke).
7/ Design of individual sessions.
8/ Overall programme / course design (e.g. concept mapping).
9/ Integrating the programme /course (e.g. constructive alignment).
10/ Assessment of learning.

12/ Management and marketing of programmes / courses.

Summary of teaching
30 hours of blended learning consisting predominantly of intensive, residential workshops with further materials provided via a virtual learning environment supported by a module reading and tutorial support. The workshop is advertised in the AGCAS training calendar as Employability and Career Development Learning.
Module timing and duration
Usually, this module runs once a year. Participants are allowed 5 months to complete.
The assignment consists of a 5000 word project (100%). Typically, participants are asked to evaluate employability and career development learning in their context and design a revised programme.
