Introduction and context
This interview lasts around 45 minutes and is primarily selected in order to focus on the interviewer's technique. The client is not in higher education but considering this amongst other options.
You are asked to evaluate the conduct of the interview paying particular attention to the contracting/working alliance that takes place throughout discussion and particularly in the first 15 minutes. Make notes on how the contract/alliance is agreed and constructed (i.e. the adviser's role; the adviser's agenda; the client's agenda; showing the client her agenda has been understood; agreeing how to address both agendas; agreeing movement through the interview e.g. next steps; re-contracting). Consider the role that knowledge of career development theories play in the adviser's contracting/working alliance practice.
