What qualifications are needed?

Use the table below to discover which ITT courses are available with your qualifications and experience.


The qualifications we offer include:

  • Level 3 Award in Education and Training - an introductory, knowledge-based teaching qualification
  • Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training - for those already teaching in a paid or voluntary post with access to a minimum of 30 hours' teaching practice
  • Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training - for teachers who have access to a minimum of 100 hours' teaching practice
  • Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training with specialist pathway - for teachers who want to teach specialist areas such as numeracy, literacy, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) or those who wish to work with learners with disabilities

No previous qualifications; operating at level 2 English and Maths

Award in Education and Training (AET) (Level 3)

Award in Mathematics for Numeracy Teaching (Level 3)

Operating at Level 2 English and Maths; working in a relevant educational context

Coaching and Mentoring (Level 4)

Supporting Functional English in the Vocational Curriculum

Supporting Functional Mathematics in the Vocational Curriculum

Supporting Functional Skills in the Vocational Curriculum

Supporting Learning in the FE and Skills Sector

Teaching and Learning in the FE and Skills Sector: Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

Level 3 qualifications e.g. A-Levels, BTEC Advanced, NVQs, Access etc.; English Level 2, Maths Level 1 and in a teaching role.

Certificate in Education and Training (Level 4)

Diploma in Education and Training (Level 5)

Diploma in Education and Training (English: Literacy) (Level 5)

Diploma in Education and Training (Mathematics: Numeracy) (Level 5)

Diploma in Education and Training (Teaching Disabled Learners) (Level 5)

Undergraduate degree but no teaching qualification

Postgraduate Award Teaching College-Based HE

Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning (FE and Skills) (placement provided)

A full generic teaching qualification e.g. DTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE, 7407 Stage 4 etc.; Maths Level 2, English Level 1 and in a teaching role

Diploma in Teaching Disabled Learners (Level 5)

Diploma in Teaching English: Literacy (Level 5)

Diploma in Teaching Functional English (Level 5)

Diploma in Teaching Mathematics: Numeracy (Level 5)
