Structure of the Courses

Post Graduate Diploma in Education (FE and Skills)

  • Credit value: 120 credits at Level 7
  • 6 written assignments
  • Professional Development Portfolio (This is an electronic portfolio: Mahara MyPortfolio)
  • Final completion date: June 17
  • Eight one hour observations carried out by mentor. Three of the eight will be carried out with a tutor from the University.
  • 150 hours of teaching
  • Regular email and telephone tutorials available

Diploma in Education and Training (DET: Generic, Maths, English & SEN)

  • Credit value: 120 credits (60 credits per year)
  • 5 written assignments in year one and 4 written assignments in year two
  • Professional Development Portfolio (electronic including Teaching Observation File)
  • Final completion date for handing in work for year one: dates vary for each course
  • Four one hour observations in each year; as mentor you will carry out two of these each year, one per year will be conducted jointly with a University or College tutor
  • At least 50 hours of subject specialist teaching to be undertaken during each year (three quarters of the teaching must be with groups of learners)
  • Regular email and telephone tutorials available

Subject Specialist Diplomas (Maths, English, SEN)

  • Credit value: 45 credits
  • 3 written assignments for subject specialist additional diplomas
  • Professional Development Portfolio ( electronic including Teaching Observation File)
  • Final completion date for handing in work for year one: dates vary for each course
  • Four one hour observations; as mentor you will carry out two of these each year, one each year will be conducted jointly with a University tutor
  • At least 50 hours of subject specialist teaching to be undertaken during the year (three quarters of the teaching must be with groups of learners)
  • Regular email and telephone tutorials available

Certificate in Education and Training (CET)

  • Credit value: 36 credit
  • 3 written assignments
  • Professional Development Portfolio (including an electronic or paper based Portfolio and Teaching Observation File)
  • Final completion date for handing in work for year one: dates vary for each course
  • Three one hour observations; as mentor you will carry out one of these
  • At least 30 hours of subject specialist teaching to be undertaken
  • Regular email and telephone tutorials available
