Darren's Case Study

Name of trainee: Darren Morgan

Year completed DTLLS: 2014

Current job title: Tutor

Current place of employment: Herefordshire College Of Technology

Background information (starting point)

I used to have my own plumbing business and having been in the industry for some time I decided that I wanted a new challenge. I started tutoring on a plumbing course part time and eventually applied for a full-time teaching post which is when I started my teacher training. The instruction on the course has been very good and if I’ve ever needed support it has been available.

Current position and details on progress

My teaching has significantly improved as a result of this course. It isn’t about just getting a pass; it is about being a really good teacher.

Impact of ITT

I look back on my training as a really positive experience. I’ve changed so many aspects of my teaching and my observations have improved as a result. It’s given me the opportunity to engage with lots of different teaching styles and has had a very positive impact; every time I teach I do the best that I can do. I’ve realised how capable I am and that I can continue developing with my own education.
You really get out what you put in on this course. It is a lot of work, but if you can apply yourself then it will benefit you greatly; it is useful and intrinsic to your teaching.
