Adult Voluntary and Community Sector & Adult and Community Learning Sector

This Priority Area focuses on working with organisations in the voluntary and community and adult and community learning sectors.

WMCETT's most recent work in this area was the 2013 LSIS-funded Changing the Dynamics project, which focused on working with the FE and Third Sectors. You can read more about it here.

The 2012 Changing Landscapes and 2011 Change Exchange Networks projects also involved partners in the Third Sector.

In previous years WMCETT in consultation with voluntary and community sector organisations has developed flexible models for the delivery of its Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector course, and in 2010 helped by identifying and supporting trainers in the sector to deliver teaching awards to voluntary and community organisations in conjunction with WMCETT. We have also developed a residential PTLLS course in partnership with Fircroft College, a VCS residential college in Birmingham. Click here for further information about this collaboration. Aims for Year 5
WMCETT changed its approach to formulating the aims for each of the Priority Areas from Year 3 onwards. Objectives are now identified within themes across all areas.
 

The following are the activities planned relating to VCS/ACL in 2011-12:

Courses
Develop and deliver a level 2 training programme, half or one day, as part of a progression route into PTLLS, and teach and train VCS trainers to deliver this

Research
Carry out research into the skills development needs of volunteers and others in the VCS regarding training delivery and identify other related CPD needs.

Networks
Investigate match funding with ACL and VCS networks for courses to develop and run.

We will also seek to bid to take part in relevant projects that may arise throughout the year.

Aims for Year 4

The following are the activities planned relating to VCS/ACL in 2010-11:

Information, Advice and Guidance
Further develop on-line information on ITT and other CPD opportunities specifically targeted at the VCS/ACL to help teachers use information to plan career development

Courses
Design and adapt non-accredited programmes for the VCS/ACL from accredited versions, and pilot them:
1) Mental Health Awareness in an Educational Setting
2) Observation of Teaching and Learning
3) Mentoring

Resources
Hold a review and development day for the new teacher trainers in the VCS/ACL and review the support needed.

Research
Carry out a survey of CPD programmes delivered in the VCS in Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Warwickshire, report on the data and us it to investigate further training.
Identify barriers to progression to post-PTLLSs ITT courses in the VCS/ACL and produce a report.

Networks
Review the Teacher Support Networks in Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Warwickshire and produce a report to plan revisions
Investigate match funding with ACL and VCS networks for courses to develop and run.
