Teaching new maths specifications courses

ACETT, the Association of CETTs, of which WMCETT is a member, won a contract from the Education and Training Foundation to produce some new one-day CPD courses, and WMCETT has now organised nine sessions to take place across the West Midlands.

The courses are aimed at all post-16 sector teachers and deliverers of maths GCSE including those engaged at level 2 and Foundation level GCSE.

They aim to build personal confidence in maths topics and develop maths teaching skills in order to deliver the new GCSE specifications successfully. There are three one-day courses designed to be taken as standalones or built to a whole programme if required. Focusing on the new GCSE specification particularly at Foundation level, they will model teaching and assessment strategies using active learning resources with the aim of supporting learners to improve and succeed.

The learning outcomes are that participants will have the knowledge to be confident to:

  • engage with a variety of active teaching, learning and assessment strategies
  • support learners with a deeper maths knowledge and understanding within topic specific areas from the new GCSE specification
  • develop learner skills in problem solving, reasoning and scaffolding

In order to join the course, participants need to have had experience in teaching maths at level 2 in the post-16 sector or to be teaching maths at GCSE level.

In the West Midlands, courses are as below, and all need to be booked via the ETF online booking system.

There are also courses in the same subjects running around the country - see the ETF website here .
