Maths and English network meetings

WMCETT manages the Regional Specialist Lead role for ACER, which has national responsibility for these jobs, funded by the Education and Training Foundation.

As part of this, it runs several networks for maths and English managers across the West Midlands. These are the next scheduled meetings:

WBL Maths & English Managers Network

This termly network provides an opportunity for WBL maths and English managers and lead practitioners to meet together to discuss issues of common interest. The next meeting will feature:

  • Update on Functional Skills reform: Ofqual consultation on rules & guidance for new qualifications
  • News of new ETF Functional Skills CPD … phonics, level 5 modules and more
  • Initial assessment - sharing approaches

You may also be interested in the ETF Professional Exchange network currently running across the West Midlands:

The Professional Exchange will enable you to share and develop your practice within your subject specialist area. You’ll meet with subject specialists from your own and other organisations in the West Midlands to look at an area of common concern. You’ll meet four times over a period of between 4-12 months, and will be able to network and share between meetings via email and social media. You'll also have ongoing support from the WMCETT team.

Developing new approaches to teaching functional maths

This network will investigate active and engaging approaches to teaching Functional Maths within apprenticeship programmes. This might include vocationally contextualised activities, use of digital technology and more.

Date: Monday 16th July, 10:00-13:00. Venue: Aspirations Training, Redditch

Developing person-centred approaches to identifying learning needs

This network will explore holistic approaches to initial & diagnostic assessment in apprenticeships, to include among other topics, readiness for learning and specific learning difference.

Date: Tuesday, June 26, 10.00-13.00. Venue: Halesowen College
