Standards Verification UK

svuklogo.gifStandards Verification UK (SVUK) is responsible for endorsing generic initial teacher training (ITT) qualifications for the lifelong learning sector in England and Wales, and qualifications for Skills for Life practitioners in ESOL, literacy and numeracy in England. We work closely with higher education institutions, awarding bodies and training organisations offering these qualifications and play a vital role in ensuring the quality of initial training and continuing professional development through our work with such providers and stakeholders.

SVUK also manages other services and resources to support workforce development:

Evidencing Skills and Qualifications

Qualified to teach or train in further education before September 2007?

With the implementation of the Further Education Teachers’ Qualifications (England) Regulations 2007 came a new framework of teaching qualifications as well as other requirements such as registering with the Institute for Learning and a commitment to continuing professional development. The Tariff of Qualifications (ITT) is a searchable, interactive database which can show the relationship of pre-September 2007 qualifications to the new teaching qualifications:

o   Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)

o   Certificate for Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS)

o   Diploma for Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS)

By identifying the coverage of your qualification, you can ensure that you start at the appropriate point in your journey to hold the appropriate qualification for your teaching role and towards professional licensed status.  The Tariff is used as a guide by awarding institutions for deciding on exemptions for prior learning and achievements; by the Institution for Learning for grading members and by learning providers to support and plan workforce development.

Evidencing your personal literacy and numeracy skills

For anyone working towards professional licensed status, another mandatory element is demonstrating your personal literacy and numeracy skills to a minimum of level 2.  Evidence your personal literacy and numeracy skills by browsing the lists of approved qualifications hosted by Standards Verification.

General Professional Recognition Learning and Skills

The GPRLS scheme enables competent and experienced teachers to be recognised according to the requirements established by the FE Teachers' Qualifications (England) Regulations 2007.

The scheme is designed for those for whom undertaking an initial teacher training qualification would be inappropriate. Successful applicants are in a position to commence the process of professional formation prior to applying for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) or Associate Teacher Learning and Skills (ATLS), the new licences to practise that are conferred by the Institute for Learning (IfL).
