Skills Development

Students here are supported to develop their skill sets and confidence in lots of different ways.

Academic skills

No matter what your previous experiences of studying have been, you will be provided with opportunities to build confidence and enhance your academic skills such as reading, writing and critical thinking. In addition to the support that is offered to students by their course team and module tutors, CLL runs a number of workshops throughout the year, as well as providing one to one support with Academic Writing and Study Skills via face to face, skype and telephone appointments. The workshops run by CLL are designed to complement the comprehensive workshop programme run by Student Careers and Skills, which offers sessions throughout each week of term. Support with Academic Writing is available through the Student Careers and Skills’ Academic Writing Programme, including a ‘Writing E-line’ (advice on your work through email), Writing Mentors and Skills Adviser appointments.

Employability skills

Many of our curriculum areas are directly aligned to the world of work helping you to develop teamwork, presentation, decision-making and communication skills. Through Student Careers & Skills, you can attend skills workshops and gain the Warwick Skills Portfolio award, participate in leadership and volunteering schemes, and undertake work experience in vacations to help you demonstrate what employers are looking for.

CLL works closely with our Senior Careers Consultant, James Goodwin, who is available to meet with students to provide bespoke careers advice throughout the year. James runs drop in sessions throughout term time as well as offering one to one bookable appointments. Find out more about the Careers-related advice and support available here.

Interpersonal skills

Through engaging with your fellow students and staff, we hope your interpersonal skills will grow. You can also join student societies to engage with the wider University community and become a Student Rep and participate in Student Staff Liaison Committees to develop your communication and negotiation skills.
