Maggie Yau

Introduction

I am a first year PhD student in the Centre for Education Studies at the University of Warwick. My research is supervised by Sue Johnston-Wilder and Elisabeth Arweck. Before I started my PhD degree I studied a BSc (Hons) in English and Psychology. More recently in 2014 I have completed an MA in Social Research at the University of Birmingham.

Research Study

My PhD research study will explore the experiences, and the development of character virtues, of adults that participate in voluntary work. The study will explore three different organisations that have volunteers, considering both international volunteering and UK volunteering. Also the study will use a mixed methods approach; questionnaires and semi-structured interviews will be used to collect data. I am interested in the character virtues and psychological well-being of volunteers.

Work Experience

I have worked in several voluntary organisations. I am currently a volunteer at a mental health charity helping with Fundraising.
