Romain Chenet

I am a final year ESRC-DTC doctoral researcher in the Sociology Department, focusing on Critical Development Studies in exploring the sociology of development through its high-level governance policies. Using poststructural analysis, my thesis investigates economic, social, and environmental problematisations in policy texts of post-2015 'Sustainable Development' discourse. My doctoral supervisors are Dr Maria do Mar Pereira (Sociology) and Dr Briony Jones (Politics and International Studies). I have also taught in three departments at the University of Warwick: Sociology, Politics and International Studies, and Global Sustainable Development.

I am an Associate Fellow of Advance HE and hold a Masters (Distinction) in Social Research from the University of Warwick, as well as a Masters (Distinction) in International Politics and a BA (First Class Honours) in Politics and Sociology from Newcastle University. I was previously based in London, working in fundraising management and corporate engagement for NGOs including UNICEF and the Red Cross to support multi-year development projects as well as humanitarian emergencies. Before settling in the UK, I lived in Asia (Nepal, India, Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia), fostering my interest in development studies. I am a keen writer and my interests include cooking French/Thai cuisine, gardening, crime fiction, Buddhist philosophy, and spending time with my cats.
