ePortfolio of Rachael L. Grime
A BBSRC-funded PhD student on the Midlands Integrative Biosciences Training Partnership (MIBTP) program. I am carrying out my PhD research with Professor Mark Wheatley & Professor Timothy Dafforn, School of Biosciences, University of Birmingham. My project involves investigating G-protein-coupled receptor structure and function. In particular, our lab is pioneering the use of detergent-free methods of solubilising membrane proteins, instead using amphipathic co-polymers such as styrene-maleic acid (SMA). My main research aim is to generate and pharmacologically characterise novel nanobodies towards two GPCR targets.
Part of the Centre of Membranes Proteins & Receptors (COMPARE) and Cells & Molecules research group.
Member of The British Pharmacological Society and Biochemical Society.
