BEng (Hons) Civil and Infrastructure Engineering Degree programme*

Warwickshire County Council is offering an exciting opportunity to join their Bridge and Structural Design Team as a Civil Engineering Degree Apprentice.

You would follow our BEng (Hons) Civil and Infrastructure Engineering programme which has been carefully designed to help you achieve the required knowledge, skills and behaviours to become a successful Civil Engineer.

Warwickshire County Council is at the heart of everything that takes place in and around Warwickshire.

The Bridge and Structural Design Team is a civil engineering business unit within the Local Authority that provides a design and construction service to both the private and public sector. We also work in partnership with neighbouring local authorities, Solihull Municipal Borough Council and Coventry City Council, providing technical support to new highway schemes and the maintenance of existing structural assets. Within Warwickshire County Council, the team also provides technical engineering support to other County Council Departments delivering enhancements to existing farming infrastructure and waste management facilities and we have even had the opportunity to provide a technical advisory role to local government projects in Sierra Leone where they are seeking to improve their local municipal facilities.

Working for the local authority will enable you to develop technical, managerial and commercial skills through the varied work experience offered by our programme of civil engineering infrastructure projects. Our projects involve working as part of large integrated teams including Project Managers, Asset Managers, Highways and Traffic Signals Engineers which encompassing a broad range of other civil engineering disciplines.

Location:

The role advertised is based in Warwick Town Centre at the County Council’s main office complex and project sites are predominantly located in Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull.

Job description:

As a Degree apprentice you will be assisting other engineers within the team in the delivery of projects ranging from small highway improvement schemes to multi-million-pound infrastructure projects. You will be involved with the production of feasibility studies for new schemes; the technical design of new highway structures using a broad range of techniques including advanced structural modelling software; communicating and liaising with a wide range of stakeholders and members of the public; preparing and tendering construction contracts including drawings, specifications and contract documents; and construction site supervision and contract administration.

During your 5-year apprenticeship, no two days will be the same - you'll have real responsibilities in the workplace and be studying with a world-leading university.

A Level:

AAA grades at A level, to include Mathematics and a Physical Science. Applicants with strong profile but without A level Mathematics will be subject to passing the University Maths assessment.

BTEC:

BTEC Diploma grade D*D*, with an A grade A level Mathematics (or subject to passing the University Maths Assessment)

BTEC Extended Diploma grade DDD including the two Mathematics units, 'Calculus to Solve Engineering Problems' and 'Further Engineering Mathematics' (or subject to passing the University Maths Assessment).

As a graduate of this programme, you can expect to leave with a BEng (Honours) degree from the University of Warwick, a professional qualification, no student debt and excellent career prospects.

Starting salary:

£17,364 per annum

Progression:

up to £31,191 per annum

Warwickshire County Council provide a comprehensive training and benefits package which includes local government pension scheme, paid holidays of up to 40 days per year (inclusive of national and public holidays) as well as flexible working arrangements.
